The Position
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Director, Human Resources will plan, lead, direct, develop, and coordinate the policies, activities, and staff of the Human Resource (HR) department, ensuring legal compliance and implementation of the organization’s human resource objectives and talent strategy. Working in collaboration with all department leaders, the Director, Human Resources, develops corporate HR plans, supports the human factor in the company, oversees HR initiatives, and ensures compliance with employment laws and regulations. The Director will be a strong people leader fostering a culture of continuous improvement, staff engagement and high performing teams.
Key Accountabilities:
Plans, directs, manages, and implements human resources strategies through department accountabilities to address their Human Resource needs and requirements including, but not limited to, talent acquisition; compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; occupational health and safety; and training and development.
- Plans, leads, develops, coordinates, and implements policies, processes, training, initiatives, and surveys to support the organization’s human resource compliance and strategy needs.
- Identifies staffing and recruiting needs; develops and executes best practices for hiring and talent management.
- Conducts research and analysis of organizational trends including review of reports and metrics from the organization’s human resource information system (HRIS).
- Monitors and ensures the organization’s compliance with federal and provincial employment laws and regulations and recommended best practices; reviews and modifies policies and practices to maintain compliance.
- Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law; applies this knowledge to communicate changes in policy, practice, and resources to upper management.
- Engages, leads, builds, motivates and inspires employees in the Human Resources department to deliver high quality deliverables that support the organization’s mandate.
- Collaborates with leadership to understand the organization’s goals and strategies related to staffing, recruiting, and retention.
- Facilitates professional development, training, and certification activities for HR staff.
- Develops and implements departmental budget.
Education, Knowledge & Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or a related field required.
- Minimum 7 years human resource management experience required.
- Certified Professional Human Resources (CPHR) required.
- Experience with HRIS system implementation; Dayforce preferred.
