Senior Data Architect

Our enterprise client is seeking an experienced Data Architect to  provide architectural and technical expertise, leadership, project management and services related to data management to improve the quality, security, effectiveness and value of their data and information.

Responsibilities include the following but are not limited to:
  • Provide advice and consulting services regarding data management strategies, data architecture, and ministry data.
  • Consult with project stakeholders on an ongoing basis.
  • Assist in developing project plans, schedules, and estimates pertaining to architectural deployment and services delivery.
  • Assist in developing task lists and resource assignments within the context of architectural planning.
  • Document technical recommendations; provide technical advice and guidance to management, operations and project team members and within shared IT services.
  • Ensure change management processes are followed.
  • Make recommendations to project team members pertaining to issues, risks and client satisfaction.
  • Provide tracking and reporting of time and status on all work as required.
 
Mandatory Skills
  • 4 years: Candidate must meet or exceed 1 of the following combinations:
  • University degree in a related discipline & 4 years experience, or
  • 2-year diploma in a related discipline & 6 years experience, or
  • 1-year certificate in a related discipline & 7 years experience, or
  • A currently active professional certification or accreditation in a related discipline & 7 years experience
  • 5 years experience working as a Data Architect (or equivalent) in organization(s) of similar size and complexity as the Government of Alberta.  This includes but is not limited to providing conceptual and logical designs such as data models and data flow diagrams.
  • 1 year conceptual/architect experience with artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) practices, tools, techniques, and approaches. While hands-on is preferred, at least conceptual experience is required.
  • 1 year’s experience with the Government of Alberta Enterprise Architecture or similar corporate architectures, and all associated best practices, methods, standards, tools, policies, and processes.
  • 0.5 years experience with business intelligence and data visualization tools, and other technologies, such as SAS Visual Analytics, MS PowerBI, Cognos, Tableau, etc
  • 0.5 years experience with big data platforms, stacks, and infrastructure. While hands-on is preferred, at least conceptual understanding is required.
 
Desired Skills
  • 5 years experience working as a Data Architect (or equivalent) in organization(s) of similar size and complexity as the Government of Alberta.  This includes but is not limited to providing conceptual and logical data architecture services such as developing data models and data flow diagrams.
  • 2 years experience with the Government of Alberta Enterprise Architecture or similar corporate architectures, and all associated best practices, methods, standards, tools, policies, and processes.
  • 1 year’s formal knowledge and experience with enterprise architecture frameworks (e.g. The Open Group Architecture Framework (TOGAF), Gartner, and/or Zachman).
  • 1 year’s conceptual/architect experience with artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) practices, tools, techniques, and approaches.
  • 1 year’s experience with one or more artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) solutions, such as such as TensorFlow, IBM Watson, MS Azure, SAS VDMML, etc.
  • 0.5 year’s experience with big data platforms, stacks, infrastructure, such as Cloudera.
  • 2 year’s hands-on experience with business intelligence and data visualization tools, and other technologies, such as SAS Visual Analytics, MS PowerBI, Cognos, Tableau, etc.
  • 0.5 year’s experience as an administrator of SAS Visual Analytics on Viya.
  • 1 year’s experience in one or more of Python, R, SQL.
  • 2 year’s experience working for, or in government.
  • 2 year’s experience in one or more other architecture domains, e.g. enterprise, business, application, technology, security, solution, etc.
  • 1 year’s experience with machine learning techniques such as Neural Networks, Random Forest, etc.
  • 1 year’s experience with natural language processing, machine translation, language detection, etc.
  • 1 year’s experience with computer vision, object recognition/tracking, OCR recognition, etc.
  • 1 year’s experience with speech to text, text to speech, audio processing, text analytics, etc.
  • 1 year’s experience with integration of architecture disciplines such as hybrid cloud, APIs, streaming technologies, event-driven systems, self-service data platforms and analytics/Machine Learning/Artificial Intelligence
  • 2 year’s experience designing and implementing enterprise database solutions.
  • 2 year’s experience designing and implementing ETL processes and data models that help align an organization's data, information, and technology with its required business capabilities in a large enterprise environment.
  • 1 year’s experience with design and/or hand-on implementation of cloud computing solutions.
  • 1 year’s experience in writing and maintaining Enterprise Architecture standards and guidelines
  • 1 year’s Candidate has Canadian post-secondary education (e.g. certificate, diploma, or degree) or foreign credentials certified by Immigration Canada, IQAS, or any accreditation acceptable to the Government of Canada or Alberta.
